Calibrating front camera for driver assist systems R242, dynamic
Preparation
Important
● Observe → Rep. gr.98; Necessity of calibration.
● There must be no entries in the event memory that would hinder calibration.
– Check camera field of view.
The following situations can cause the camera function to be impaired by sustained poor visibility of the lane marker lines:
♦ Contamination or icing in the camera's field of view.
♦ Field of view of the camera is fogged.
Important
● The camera’s field of view must be cleaned manually if there is heavy soiling on the inside of the windscreen in the camera's field of view. To do this, the camera and backlight masking screen must be removed and the windscreen cleaned using cleaning solution → Electronic parts catalogue (ETKA).
– Check sensors, holders and fasteners for damage, manipulation and secure fit.
Calibrating
Important
● → Vehicle diagnostic tester connected.
– Carry out function “Calibrate front camera for driver assist systems” using → Vehicle diagnostic tester → Rep. gr.00; Access to diagnoses.

– Observe test prerequisites for wheel alignment → Running gear, axles, steering; Rep. gr.44; Wheel alignment; Test prerequisites.
– Observe preparative measures for wheel alignment with driver assist systems → Running gear, axles, steering; Rep. gr.44; Wheel alignment; Preparative measures.
– Check camera, holder and fasteners for damage, manipulation and secure fit.
– Verify whether there is sufficient space between vehicle and setting device -VAS 6430- before driving vehicle onto wheel alignment platform.
Important
● Distance between setting device and hub centre points of front wheels must be 1500 mm ± 25 mm.
Note
If there is not enough space, move the vehicle backwards onto the wheel alignment platform as required to make space.
– Drive vehicle straight onto wheel alignment platform.
– Turn wheels to straight-ahead position.
– Install quick-release clamps to front wheels.
– Install reflectors to quick-release clamps.
– → Vehicle diagnostic tester connected. Select programme and follow instructions.
– Measure ride height -a- at all 4 wheels and note data.
Important
● Setting device must not be moved on alignment beam.
● The wheel alignment platform must be in the lowermost, levelled position for the next work step.
– Turn up adjustment device until alignment beam is parallel to centre of wheel alignment sensors on front wheels.
– Position setting device at distance -a- from midpoint of hub of front wheels to beam of setting device.
Important
● Distance -a- = 1500 mm ±25 mm
– Use distance measuring unit -1- to measure distance -a- on both sides of vehicle and align setting device.
Important
● Distance -a- must be same on both sides of vehicle.
– Fit wheel alignment sensor -1- on setting device and tighten.
Important
● The wheel alignment platform must be in the lowermost, levelled position for the next work step.
– Measure height value -a- between contact point of setting device and wheel contact point on alignment platform.
Non-SUV models:
Height of calibration board -VAS 6430/4-: 1200 mm + height value -a-.
– Enter value in wheel alignment computer.
All vehicles (continued)
SUV models:
Height of calibration board -VAS 6430/4-: 1400 mm + height value -a-.
– Enter value in wheel alignment computer.
All vehicles (continued)
– Loosen clamping bolt -arrow- and place rod -1- on floor.
– Use crank -1- to set calibration board to specified height -2- indicated by wheel alignment computer and make a note of this.
– When specified height has been reached, move level staff -1- upwards slightly, and secure it with clamping bolt -arrow-.
– Turn setting device in direction of -arrow B- until display on wheel alignment computer is within tolerance. Make sure that neither the calibration board nor the alignment beam are displaced.
– Tighten adjuster screws -2- and -3- slightly and secure setting device to prevent it from rolling away.
– Turn adjuster screw -1- until display on wheel alignment computer is within tolerance.
– Turn spirit level -A- with adjuster screw -1- and spirit level -B- with adjuster screws -2- and -3- until calibration board is horizontal.
– Loosen clamping bolt -arrow- and place rod -1- on floor.
– Verify specified height -2-.
Important
● If specified height deviates, correct it using crank -1-.
– When specified height has been reached, move level staff -1- upwards slightly, and secure it with clamping bolt -arrow-.
Calibrating
Important
● → Vehicle diagnostic tester connected.
– Carry out function “Calibrate front camera for driver assist systems” using → Vehicle diagnostic tester → Rep. gr.00; Access to diagnoses.
