Removing and installing rear window regulator motor [V471]/[V472]

Removing and installing rear window regulator motor [V471]/[V472]

Rear driver side window regulator motor -V471- and rear passenger side window regulator motor -V472- are referred to hereafter as window regulator motor.

Removal and installation are described for left side of vehicle as an example.

Removing

– Remove rear door trim → General body repairs, interior; Rep. gr.70; Rear door trim; Removing and installing rear door trim.

CAUTION

Risk of injury to hands and eyes due to glass splinters.

Danger of cutting yourself.

– Put on safety goggles.

– Put on protective gloves.

NOTICE

Risk of damage to the door window from sliding down.

The door window could become scratched or chipped.

– Fix the door window in position using adhesive tape.

– Fix rear door window in position using commercially available adhesive tape.

– Disconnect electrical connector -3-.

– Unscrew bolts -2-.

– Remove window regulator motor -1-.


Installing

Install in reverse order of removal, observing the following:

– Insert window regulator motor -1- on assembly carrier -2-. When doing this, move door window up and down until teeth align.


– Adapt window regulator motor → Booklet; Window regulator: Checking position.

Tightening torques

Removing and installing striker pin

Removing and installing striker pin

Removal and installation are described for the left side of vehicle as an example.

Removing

– Unscrew bolts -2-.

– Remove striker pin -1-.


Installing

Install in reverse order of removal, observing the following:

Striker pin with curvature

– Fit striker pin on C-pillar with curvature facing inwards.

Assembling rear exterior door handle [EX8]/[EX9]

Assembling rear exterior door handle [EX8]/[EX9]

The rear left exterior door handle -EX8- and rear right exterior door handle -EX9- will henceforth be referred to as “door handle”.

The contact sensor for front left exterior door handle -G605- and contact sensor for front right exterior door handle -G606- will henceforth be referred to as “contact sensor for exterior door handle”.

The light for exterior door handle illumination, driver side -L283- and light for exterior door handle illumination, front passenger side -L284- will henceforth be referred to as “light for exterior door handle illumination”.

The dismantling and assembling procedures are described for the left door handle as an example.

The door handle trim cannot be removed free of damage.

Important

● Painting of the new door handle trim must be fully accomplished.

● Only use new door handle for assembly.

● For the following work steps, observe relevant specifications with regard to temperature, cleaning, removal of adhesive residue and installation → General information – body; Rep. gr.52; Self-adhesive components; Specifications for self-adhesive components.

– Clean bonding surfaces, and allow to flash off.

– Pull protective film off adhesive tape -3-.

– Push door handle trim -2- onto mounting bracket -1- -arrow A-.

– Push door handle trim -2- onto mounting bracket -1- -arrow B-.

– Press door handle trim -2- with its fasteners onto mounting bracket -1- -arrows C-.

– Firmly press on door handle trim -2- in area of adhesive tape.

Special tools and workshop equipment required

♦ Removal lever -80-200-

Removal and installation are described for left side of vehicle as an example.

Removing

– Remove assembly carrier → Rep. gr.58; Removing and installing assembly carrier.

– Remove exterior door handle → Rep. gr.58; Removing and installing exterior door handle [EX8]/[EX9].

– Guide drift -4- centrally as far as stop into housing -3- -arrow B- until locking devices are released.

– Insert removal lever -80-200- -2- between housing -3- and base -1- -arrow A-.

– Lift out housing -3- using removal lever -2-.


– Unscrew bolt -4-, and remove base -3-.

– Unclip electric cable from mounting bracket -1-.

– Remove mounting bracket -1- from door.

– Unclip Bowden cable -2- from fastener.

– Turn pin of Bowden cable -2- out of mounting in mounting bracket -1- -arrow A-.

– Remove Bowden cable -2- from mounting bracket -1- -arrow B-.


Installing

Install in reverse order of removal, observing the following:

♦ → Rep. gr.58; Assembly overview – assembly carrier

Removing and installing rear door lock unit [VX83]/[VX84]

Removing and installing rear door lock unit [VX83]/[VX84]

The rear door lock unit, driver side -VX83- and rear door lock unit, passenger side -VX84- will henceforth be referred to as “door lock”.

Removal and installation are described for the left side of vehicle as an example.

Removing

– Remove assembly carrier → Rep. gr.58; Removing and installing assembly carrier.

– Remove exterior door handle → Rep. gr.58; Removing and installing exterior door handle [EX8]/[EX9].

Vehicles with entry and start authorisation control unit

– Release mounting bracket → Rep. gr.58; Removing and installing mounting bracket.

All vehicles (continued)

– Disconnect connector -1-.

– Unscrew bolts -2-.


Vehicles without entry and start authorisation control unit

– Remove door lock -3- from door in direction of -arrow-.

New door lock

– Remove Bowden cable for exterior door handle → Rep. gr.58; Removing and installing Bowden cable for exterior door handle.

– Remove Bowden cable for interior door handle → Rep. gr.58; Removing and installing Bowden cable for interior door handle.

Installing

Install in reverse order of removal, observing the following:

– Perform functional check with the door open.

Tightening torques

Removing and installing assembly carrier

Removing and installing assembly carrier

Removal and installation are described for left side of vehicle as an example.

Removing

– Remove rear door trim → General body repairs; interior; Rep. gr.70; Rear door trims; Removing and installing rear door trim.

– Detach rear door window from window regulator → Rep. gr.64; Removing and installing rear door window.

– Push rear door window upwards, and secure it with adhesive tape to prevent it from falling down.

– Lever off plug -2-.

– Unscrew bolt -1-.

– Disconnect electrical connectors -3-.

– Loosen clips -4-, and lay electrical wires aside.


– Turn clips -2- 90° in direction of -arrow A-, and pull them out slightly.

– Pull assembly carrier -1- in direction of -arrow B- out of door.


Installing

Install in reverse order of removal, observing the following:

– Insert spreader plug and spreader rivet → Rep. gr.64; Removing and installing rear door window.

Removing and installing window channel

Removing and installing window channel

NOTICE

Risk of damage to window guide from applying excessive force.

The metal insert of the window guide may be bent.

– Handle window guide with care.

Removal and installation are described for the left vehicle side as an example.

Removing

– Remove rear door window → Rep. gr.64; Removing and installing rear door window.

– Remove inner window slot seal → Rep. gr.58; Removing and installing inner window slot seal.

– Remove outer window slot seal → Rep. gr.58; Removing and installing outer window slot seal.

– Remove B-pillar trim on rear door → Rep. gr.66; Removing and installing B-pillar trim on rear door.

– Pull out locking pin -4- -arrow b-.

– Peel sealing lip of window channel -1- off door flange -2- from inside.

– Pull window channel -1- with clips -5- and -7- out of door -arrow B-.

– Pull window channel -1- out of door joint seal -6- -arrows C-.


– Pull window channel -1- out of door mountings -arrows A-.

– Pull window channel -1- off front body flange -arrows B-.

– Pull window channel -1- -arrows B- evenly all around off door flange -2-.


Installing

Install in reverse order of removal, observing the following:

NOTICE

Uneven seating and fit of the window channel after installation.

Wind noise is possible.

– Ensure that item is seated and comes into contact correctly when aligning and installing.

– Moisten window channel with soapy solution to facilitate installation.

– Make sure that clips are properly seated.

– Fold sealing lip of window channel onto door flange from inside.

Removing and installing outer window slot seal

Removing and installing outer window slot seal

Special tools and workshop equipment required

♦ Removal wedge set -VAS 895 015-

♦ wedge -T10039/1-

Removing

Removal and installation are described for the left side of vehicle as an example.

– Insert wedge no. 3 -2- from removal wedge set -VAS 895 015- between outer window slot seal -3- and B-pillar trim on rear door -1-.

NOTICE

Risk of damage to outer window slot seal due to incorrect removal.

If the metal insert in the outer window slot seal is bent, the window slot seal can no longer be straightened out.

– Pull off the outer window slot seal evenly, without bending it.

– Using wedge -T10039/1- -5-, lever outer window slot seal -3- evenly off door flange -4- in direction of -arrow- starting from outside.


Installing

Install in reverse order of removal, observing the following:

– Align outer window slot seal -2- centrally on door flange -1- and on seal of fixed door window at B-pillar.

Important

● The outer window slot seal -2- must not be installed using impact tools.

NOTICE

Risk of damage to outer window slot seal due to incorrect installation.

If the metal insert in the outer window slot seal is bent, the window slot seal can no longer be straightened out.

– Push on the outer window slot seal evenly, without bending or distorting it.

– Starting at B-pillar, fit outer window slot seal -2- evenly by hand in direction of -arrow- onto door flange -1-.

Removing and installing window slot inner seal

Removing and installing window slot inner seal

Removal and installation are described for left side of vehicle as an example.

Inner window slot seal will henceforth be referred to as “window slot seal”.

Removing

– Remove rear door trim → General body repairs, interior; Rep. gr.70; Rear door trim; Removing and installing rear door trim.

NOTICE

Risk of damage to the window slot seal due to incorrect removal.

The window slot seal may become bent.

– Proceed with caution when levering off the window slot seal.

– Lever window slot seal -1- in direction of -arrow A- evenly off door flange -2-.


Installing

Install in reverse order of removal, observing the following:

– Position window slot seal -1- in direction of -arrow A- centrally between front section of window guide -4- and rear section of fixed rear door window -3-.

– Push window slot seal -1- in direction of -arrow B- evenly by hand onto door flange -2-.

Removing and installing operating cable for exterior door handle

The rear door lock unit, driver side -VX83- and rear door lock unit, passenger side -VX84- will henceforth be referred to as “door lock”.

The removal and installation procedures are described for the left side of the vehicle as an example.

Removing

– Remove door lock → Rep. gr.58; Removing and installing rear door lock unit [VX83]/[VX84].

Door lock with cover

– Open cover -2- in direction of -arrow A-.

– Turn Bowden cable -3- 90° in direction of -arrow A-, and unclip it in direction of -arrow C-.

– Detach Bowden cable -3- in direction of -arrow D- from door lock -1-, and remove Bowden cable.

Door lock with SAFELOCK

– Turn Bowden cable -2- 90° in direction of -arrow A-, and remove it from retainer.

– Swing Bowden cable -2- in direction of -arrow B- until Bowden cable -2- can be guided out of eyelet in door lock -1- in direction of -arrow C-.

Door lock without SAFELOCK

– Turn Bowden cable -2- 90° in direction of -arrow A-, and remove it from retainer.

– Swing Bowden cable -2- in direction of -arrow B- until Bowden cable -2- can be guided out of eyelet in door lock -1- in direction of -arrow C-.

Installing

Installation is carried out in reverse sequence.

Door lock with flap for Bowden cable

– Open flap -2- in direction of -arrow D-.

– Turn Bowden cable -3- 90° in direction of -arrow A- and swivel out in direction of -arrow B-.

– Swing Bowden cable -2- until Bowden cable -3- can be guided out of eyelet in door lock -1- in direction of -arrow C-.

– Guide out Bowden cable -2-.

Door lock without flap for Bowden cable

– Turn Bowden cable -2- 90° in direction of -arrow A- and swivel out in direction of -arrow B-.

– Swing Bowden cable -2- until Bowden cable -2- can be guided out of eyelet in door lock -1- in direction of -arrow C-.

– Guide out Bowden cable -2-.

Installing

Installation is carried out in reverse sequence.
