Removing and installing front side window

Special tools and workshop equipment required

♦ Setting gauge -3371-

♦ Suction lifter -V.A.G 1344-

♦ Wire for removal tool -VAS 6452/2-

♦ Wire reel -VAS 6452/1-

♦ pull handle -V.A.G 1351/1-

Removal and installation are described for left side of vehicle as an example.

Depending on model, shape of side window may differ.

CAUTION

Risk of injury to hands and eyes due to glass splinters.

Danger of cutting yourself.

– Put on safety goggles.

– Put on protective gloves.

NOTICE

Risk of damage to surfaces of components.

– Mask off surrounding components in the visible area with commercially available adhesive tape.

– Unroll wire for removal kit -VAS 6452/2- -2- from wire reel device -VAS 6452/1-.

– Place wire for removal kit -VAS 6452/2- -2- around front side window -1-.

– Secure ends of wire with pull handle -V.A.G 1351/1- -3-.

– Cut through adhesive bead with sawing motions of pull handle in direction of -arrows-.

– Remove front side window -1- using suction lifter -V.A.G 1344-.

Installing

Install in reverse order of removal, observing the following:

Undamaged windscreen

New windscreen

– Observe → General information – body; Rep. gr.52; Use of adhesives; Minimum drying times for bonded windows.

– Apply window adhesive onto correspondingly marked bonding surface of front side window all around.

Dimensions for cross-section of adhesive bead:

♦ Height = 10 mm ±1 mm

♦ Width = 6.5 mm ±0.5 mm

– Check gaps with setting gauge -3371-, observing → Rep. gr.00; centre gaps while doing so.
