Removing and installing tail light cluster [MX3]/[MX4]

Removing and installing tail light cluster [MX3]/[MX4]

Left tail light cluster -MX3- and right tail light cluster -MX4- will henceforth be referred to as “tail light cluster”.

Removal and installation are described for the left vehicle side as an example.

Removing

– Unclip lower tail light cluster trim -1- in direction of -arrow A- using commercially available removal wedge.

– Unscrew bolts -2-.

– Remove tail light cluster -1- in direction of -arrow A-.

– Disconnect electrical connector.

– Remove tail light cluster -1-.

Installing

Install in reverse order of removal, observing the following:

Tightening torques

Removing and installing rear fog light [X3]

Removing and installing rear fog light [X3]

The rear fog light -X3- will henceforth be referred to as “rear fog light”.

Removal and installation are described for the left vehicle side as an example.

Removing

– Remove rear wheel housing liner → General body repairs, exterior; Rep. gr.66; Wheel housing liner; Removing and installing rear wheel housing liner.

– Disconnect electrical connector -3-.

– Release retaining clips -2- in direction of -arrow A-.

– Remove rear fog light -1-.

Installing

Install in reverse order of removal, observing the following:

– The rear fog light must engage audibly.

Removal and installation are described for the left side of vehicle as an example.

Removing

– Tail light cluster is secured with 3 locking devices -1-, -2- and -3-.

Note

Only the locking devices -3- and -2- can be released manually. The locking device -1- releases automatically.

– Remove lower rear lid trim → General body repairs, interior; Rep. gr.70; Luggage compartment trims; Removing and installing lower rear lid trim.

Vehicles without left tail light cluster 2 -MX5-/right tail light cluster -MX4- depending Vehicles

– Press together locking devices -2- and -1- using a commercially available long-nose pliers.

Note

The tail light cluster is under tension due to the gasket. Hold the tail light cluster securely.

– Remove tail light cluster.

All vehicles (continued)

Vehicles with left tail light cluster 2 -MX5-/right tail light cluster -MX4-

– Drill hole -1- using commercially available drill bit.

Important

● Diameter -1- = 12 mm

● Dimension a = 6 mm

– Using a screwdriver, carefully release locking devices -2- and -1-.

Note

The tail light cluster is under tension due to the gasket. Hold the tail light cluster securely.

– Remove tail light cluster.

– Disconnect electrical connector.
