Product description

The transparent primer LVM 823 000 A2 can be used directly on uncoated plastic. It provides excellent adhesion even on critical plastic parts for passenger vehicles.

Painted plastic parts must not be cleaned with a high-pressure cleaner during the first 6 weeks. Even then the minimum distance between the nozzle and the object is 30 cm.

Suitable substrates

All plastic parts commonly found on vehicle exteriors.

♦ PP, EPDM, ABS, PC, PPO, PA, R-TPU, PBTP, PVC.

♦ PUR, PUR flexible foam.

♦ UP-GF

Substrate pretreatment

– Before cleaning plastic parts, anneal them for 60 minutes at +60°C to “sweat out” the release agents.

For pre-cleaning, use an ultra-fine emery pad soaked in slow-drying silicone remover LVM 020 100. For post-cleaning, use a cloth soaked in slow-drying silicone remover LVM 020 100.

Wipe the surface to loosen and remove any contamination. Immediately wipe with a clean cloth.

Change cloths often. Do not use dirty cloths.

Thoroughly remove all traces of release agents.

– Repairs to cleaned and sanded external plastic parts of passenger vehicles.

Storage conditions

♦ Optimal storage temperature is +20℃.

♦ Temperature must not be lower than +5°C

♦ After exposure to frost, the primer surfacer must be warmed up again to +20°C so that it is fully usable again.

2- pack primer surfacer for plastics LKF 696 009 A2/LKF 696 040 A2 is a high-grade 2-pack primer surfacer for plastic parts.

2-pack primer surfacers for plastics are classified according to the CLP Regulation (EC) No. 1272/2008.

Substrate pretreatment

– Before cleaning plastic parts, anneal them for 60 minutes at +60°C to “sweat out” the release agents.

Important

● The substrate must be free of release agents.

The extent of the cleaning required will vary according to the type and quantity of release agent used.

It is recommended that a 3M 7448 sanding pad be used to help cleaning.

– Clean thoroughly using anti-static cleaner for plastics LVM 001 001 A2 or the milder slow-drying silicone remover LVM 020 100 A5.

– Allow the thinner to evaporate well (e.g. air-dry overnight at room temperature or 30 to 40 minutes at +60°C).

Important

● The substrate must be free of release agents.

– Before applying the 2-pack primer surfacer for plastics, clean again lightly using anti-static cleaner for plastics LVM 001 001 A2 or slow-drying silicone remover LVM 020 100 A5 with anti-static effect.

Mixing ratio

Important

● Do not add thinner.

The mixture is ready to spray after hardener has been added.

Mixing ratio by volume 1:1 with hardener for 2-pack primer surfacer LHA 005 000 A2.

Application time/pot life:

♦ Ready-to-spray preparation approx. 7 to 9 hours at +20°C

Application viscosity for +20°C material temperature:

♦ DIN 4 mm: 16 to 18 seconds

♦ ISO 4 mm: 37 to 45 seconds

Spray pass

– 1st application: apply 1 thin spray pass.

– 2nd application: apply 1 normal spray pass.

Prescribed dry film thickness is 25 to 30 µm.

Drying

Flash-off time at +20°C room temperature approx. 15 to 20 minutes.

Air drying at +20°C room temperature.

Can be over-sprayed by wet-in-wet technique with a suitable top-coat paint after 15 to 20 minutes up to 24 hours max.

Sanding

If necessary, light sanding is possible using P800 to P1000 grit wet sandpaper after 30 minutes of drying at +60°C object temperature or 2 hours drying at +20°C room temperature.

Further steps

Flaws in the substrate can be touched up after drying with 2-pack fine filler LSP 784 002 A2.

Filler spots must be isolated with 2-pack primer surfacer for plastics before the top coat is applied.

Can be painted over with:

♦ Waterborne base coat and 2-pack HS clear coat

♦ 2-pack HS top coat
