Special tools and workshop equipment required

♦ 2D scanner -VAS 6161/1-

Fuse holder A -SA- is referred to hereafter as fuse holder A.

Battery -A- is referred to hereafter as battery.

Note

Use only maintenance-free 12-volt vehicle batteries compliant with the standards TL 825 06 and VW 7 50 73. These standards must be dated October 2014 or later. If an unsuitable battery is used, the type approval becomes invalid.

Removing

– Remove bulkhead → General body repairs, exterior; Rep. gr.50; Bulkhead; Removing and installing plenum chamber bulkhead

– Disconnect battery → Rep. gr.27; Disconnecting and connecting battery.

– Release locking devices -3-.

– Remove cover for high-voltage connection on vehicle front end -2-.

– Remove cover for high-voltage connection on vehicle front end -1- from guide.


– Release retaining hooks -arrows-.

– Remove cover -1-.


– Unscrew nut -2-.

– Detach electrical wire -1-.


– Release retaining tabs on bracket for fuse holder A -1- in direction of -arrow-.

– Remove bracket for fuse holder A -1- and lay it aside with electrical wires connected.


– Open cover for battery clamp for positive battery terminal -1-.

– Loosen nut -2- several turns, and pull of battery clamp for positive battery terminal -1-.


– Unscrew bolt -3-.

– Detach retainer plate -2-.

– Pull out battery -1- in direction of travel from battery tray and remove upwards from engine compartment.


Renewing battery:

– Pull impact shield -2- in direction of -arrow- off battery -1-.

Installing

Install in the reverse order of removal, observing the following:

Note

In the event of battery renewal, record the battery data before battery installation by writing down the information, photographing it or scanning the QR code. The QR code can be scanned using 2D scanner -VAS 6161/1-.

– Place protective plate on battery.

– Insert battery in battery tray -1- in such a way that battery base strip makes contact at bottom and side of stop -arrows-.

Important

● It should no longer be possible to move battery towards rear or sides.


– Fit retaining bracket -2-.

Important

● Make sure that the locking element on the retaining bracket engages in the recess in the battery base strip.

– Tighten bolt -3-.

– Check battery -1- is seated securely.


– Fit battery clamp for positive battery terminal -1-.

– Tighten nut -2-.


– Connect battery → Rep. gr.27; Disconnecting and connecting battery.

If battery has been renewed:

– Carry out required function/functions using → Vehicle diagnostic tester → Rep. gr.00; Access to diagnoses.

Disconnecting and connecting battery

Disconnecting and connecting battery

The battery monitor control unit -J367- will henceforth be referred to as “battery monitor control unit”.

Battery -A- is referred to hereafter as battery.

Disconnecting

– Deactivate vehicle’s drive system.

– Switch off ignition and electrical equipment.

– Open cover for negative battery terminal above battery monitor control unit -3-.

– Loosen nut -1- several turns, and pull battery clamp with battery monitor control unit -3- off battery negative terminal.


– Switch on ignition.

– Switch off ignition and electrical equipment.

– Place vehicle key and other entry and start authorisation devices (e.g. smartphone) outside vehicle.

– Make sure that 12V electrical system is de-energised with multimeter at jump-start connections.

Important

● Voltage must be approx. 0 V. Electrical system found to be de-energised.

Vehicles whose electrical system cannot be found to be de-energised:

– → ; Rep. gr.; De-energise high-voltage system.

– Make sure that 12V electrical system is de-energised with multimeter at jump-start connections.

● Voltage must be approx. 0 V. Electrical system found to be de-energised.

Connecting

NOTICE

Risk of damage to the battery clamps for positive and negative battery terminals and to the battery terminals themselves.

– Battery clamps for positive and negative battery terminals may only be attached by hand without excessive force.

– Battery terminals must not be greased.

– Battery clamps for positive and negative battery terminals must be installed in such a way that the battery terminal is flush with the battery clamp or protrudes from it.

– Disconnect electrical connector -2-.

– Fit terminal clamp with battery monitor control unit -3- onto negative battery terminal.

– Tighten nut -1-.

– Connect electrical connector -2-.


– Switch on ignition.

– Open and close door windows to fully opened and fully closed position respectively.

– Then, when door windows are closed, pull the window regulator buttons until the relay audibly switches.

– Check convenience mode of the window regulator motors.

Important

● With “one-touch opening and closing” activated, door windows must close fully without the need to hold window regulator button.

This following work steps are necessary so that the ESP indicator lamp goes out:

– Activate vehicle’s drive system.

– Select drive position.

– Move steering wheel to full left and right lock.

– Read and clear event memory using → Vehicle diagnostic tester.

Important

● ESC warning lamp must go out.

Removing

– Remove battery -A- → Rep. gr.27; Removing and installing battery A.

– Unscrew bolts -2-.

– Remove cable tie from battery tray -1-.

– Remove battery tray -1-.


Installing

Install in reverse order of removal, observing the following:

The battery monitor control unit -J367- will henceforth be referred to as “battery monitor control unit”.

Removing

– Disconnect battery → Rep. gr.27; Disconnecting and connecting battery.

– Disconnect electrical connector -2- from battery monitor control unit -3-.


– Unscrew nut -1- from earth wire -2-.

– Remove earth wire -2- with battery monitor control unit [J367].


Installing

Install in the reverse order of removal, observing the following:

Battery monitor control unit -J367- – commissioning:

– Carry out required function/functions using → Vehicle diagnostic tester → Rep. gr.00; Access to diagnoses.
