Volkswagen ID.3: Introduction to online services

Volkswagen ID.3 (E11, E12) 2020-2024 Owner's Manual / Introduction to online services

You can use the online services in Other Services to connect your Volkswagen ID.3 vehicle to the Internet. This gives you the option to increase the scope of various services. You can find a description of all the available services online at:

You can find the myVolkswagen customer area online at:

To use We Connect, you must first activate it by concluding a We Connect contract with Volkswagen online, subject to a country-dependent term limitation.

The service portfolios offered by Volkswagen and the individual services can be changed, adjusted, deactivated, reactivated, renamed, and enhanced without additional notifications.

The usage and availability of services and service portfolios can differ depending on the Volkswagen ID.3 vehicle equipment, the country and the vehicle.

Emergency calls and phone calls cannot be made and data cannot be transmitted in areas with poor mobile phone and GPS reception.

Observe warning message(s) .

Volkswagen is not responsible for vehicle damage that is caused by low-quality or malfunctioning third-party apps, inadequate programming of third-party apps, insufficient network strength, data loss, misuse of mobile devices, or malware on data carriers, computers, tablets and cell phones.

You can find an overview of your activated services and their duration in your Volkswagen user account.

Performing services via the app may use data and lead to costs. If the contractually agreed volume of data is exceeded, the transfer rate will decrease, which may cause delays in performing services.

Data processing

Applies to EU countries where the General Data Protection Regulation is in effect.

When using services, Volkswagen ID.3 vehicle information is sent and processed online. This data can provide indirect information about the respective driver, e.g. regarding vehicle handling. You can find the privacy policy for the use of Volkswagen's online services on the Infotainment system under MENU Legal or HOME Legal.

Permanent transfer of the vehicle

If the vehicle has been purchased used or if the Volkswagen ID.3 vehicle has been permanently transferred to you, online services may already be activated and the previous user may be able to view data acquired by online services and control certain functions of your vehicle.

Furthermore, mobile keys may be active for your vehicle .

You can see in the Infotainment system if your vehicle is assigned to a person as a primary user. In this case, you can register yourself as the primary user of the Volkswagen ID.3 vehicle, which automatically removes the previous primary user.

Alternatively, you have the option in the Infotainment system to permanently delete the previous user as the primary user. You can also put your vehicle in offline mode to limit vehicle communication with the Volkswagen data server as well as the processing of vehicle and personal data.

Setting, Changing and Resetting the S-PIN

In addition to the password, the security pin (S-PIN) will also be requested during user authentication. This acts as a second level of security and protects security-related services against unauthorized access.

The security PIN

S-PIN is a sequence of several numbers that you can freely select as part of registration.

When creating your S-PIN , avoid numbers that are easy to guess and widely known dates of birth.

You must keep your S-PIN strictly confidential. For security reasons, you should change your S-PIN immediately if your S-PIN becomes disclosed to a third party.

Setting the S-PIN via myVolkswagen and the App

  • In myVolkswagen, you can set your S-PIN in your Volkswagen user account.

Introduction

Opening user management

  1. On the home screen of the Infotainment system, tap User or User management.

Setting options

Depending on the Volkswagen ID.3 vehicle equipment, these setting options may be available:

  • Me (Primary user).
  • Others (guest user or anonymous guest).
  • Key.
  • Mobile key.
  • Setup.

Description of user roles

Primary user

  • The "primary user" role is intended for the registered keeper or for a user of the Volkswagen ID.3 vehicle who is not merely a temporary user, e.g. lessee or company car driver. Only the primary user is authorized to order and activate services for a particular vehicle.
  • There is only one primary user for each vehicle. When a new primary user is confirmed, the previous primary user automatically loses their user role. The previous primary user is informed of this.

Guest users

  • The "Guest user" user role is intended for all other users in the vehicle who do not have the "Primary user" user role, but wish to save vehicle settings to a personal user profile. Guest users can use mobile online services in the vehicle just like the primary user. Guest users have limited ability to use mobile online services in the App.

Anonymous guest

  • The "anonymous guest" user role is not assigned to one person. The account is local to the Volkswagen ID.3 vehicle and cannot be synchronized with the server. The "anonymous guest" user role is intended for anonymous users. These are users who have access to the vehicle but do not log in. There is only one account in vehicles with online personalization and it cannot be deleted. If the "anonymous guest" user role is activated, all vehicle users who are logged in are temporarily logged out.

Managing Users

After successful registration and verification, you can assign permissions to the users of the Volkswagen ID.3 vehicle.

In addition to the primary user, registered secondary user and anonymous guest user roles are available.

There are no management options for anonymous guest users. As the primary user, you can view and manage registered secondary users in the myVolkswagen customer area.

Creating secondary users via myVolkswagen

The primary user has unrestricted permissions and can assign permissions to other users of the vehicle.

  1. Open the Volkswagen ID.3 Vehicle administration area.
  2.  Click on Invitations and enter the e-mail address and username of the secondary user you wish to register.
  3. Click on Send.

The invited person will receive an email with your invitation. Once the person has accepted the invitation, you can activate the services for them as a secondary user.

You can revoke invitations in the Secondary user area.

Removing secondary users via myVolkswagen

  1. Open the Volkswagen ID.3 Vehicle administration area.
  2. In the Secondary user area, click on Remove secondary user authorization next to the secondary user concerned.

Deleting a primary user

If you sell your Volkswagen ID.3 vehicle or transfer the services to a different user, you should reset the Infotainment system to the factory settings. This deletes the primary user and all service-specific data stored in the vehicle.

As part of the factory reset, a pop-up window appears in the Infotainment system asking whether you really do wish to reset the primary user. If you do execute this function, the link between the primary user and the services of the vehicle concerned will be deleted. Resetting the Infotainment system to the factory settings irrevocably deletes the entries, settings and stored data, depending on the selected options.

Changing and Deleting User Data

You can change or delete your user data or login details. Any changes to your login details will also apply to all other Volkswagen systems that use Volkswagen ID at the same time.

Introduction

Using the personalization function, individual vehicle settings, such as the air conditioner, can be saved to your Volkswagen user account. The user is identified by logging into the Infotainment system. Changes to the settings are assigned to the Volkswagen user account active for the Volkswagen ID.3 vehicle and if there is an Internet connection, they are automatically saved online in the Volkswagen user account.

Customizable vehicle settings

The vehicle functions that can be set depend on the equipment. Some functions that can be personalized are not stored online, rather only assigned locally to the user profile in the vehicle.

The following functions can be personalized:

  • Windshield wiper settings.
  • Seat settings
  • Light and view (low beam headlight turning on time, 3-blink turn signal).
  •  Climate control system settings
  • Driving data menu and selection of displays in the Volkswagen Digital Cockpit.
  • Driver assistance systems settings.

Synchronising vehicle settings

Vehicle settings that are changed in the Volkswagen ID.3 vehicle are automatically assigned to the active user profile and stored online periodically. The vehicle settings are synchronized automatically with the data saved online in the following situations, when there is an internet connection:

  • When switching on the ignition and the Infotainment system: synchronizes all recently used Volkswagen user accounts saved in the vehicle.
  • When switching to another Volkswagen user account: synchronizes the newly activated and the now deactivated Volkswagen user account.
  • At the end of the trip and when switching off the ignition: synchronizes the Volkswagen user account that was last active.

You can also start synchronization manually at any time in the user administration menu, e.g. if automatic synchronization upon login was not successful. Synchronization cannot take place automatically if the vehicle's online status is impaired, e.g. in underground garages, or if you have activated the "Maximum privacy settings" mode.

If an inactive user profile is active in another vehicle and if settings are synchronized from there, these settings will also be loaded to your vehicle and assigned to the corresponding user profile.
